Tamsin Murray is a meditative movement teacher and artist, sculptor, silk dyer, writer. Her teacher Adnan Sarhan was a Sufi Master from Baghdad. His work was a sensitive and rigorous blend of movement, dance, chanting, whirling, community and guidance through which she found sanctuary to heal, inspiration to exist, purpose to explore and compassion in a community. She travelled and studied with Adnan for over 30 years. Her teaching embodies the concentration and dedication to hold the space for others to find their own connection to spirit. “Sometimes the work is a lullaby for the soul, sometimes it is a call to wake up from a trouble and conflicted dream, sometimes it is touching pure beauty, it is always renewing.” Tamsin
Tamsin began teaching in 1994 in New York teaching weekly classes. Since then she has taught in Byron Bay, Brisbane, Coffs Harbour, Bermagui, Bellingen, Australia, Los Angeles, Virginia, New York, New Mexico, Madrid. When traveling with Adnan she performed many times with him in his drumming concerts and demonstrated dancing with the veil as a meditation in his workshops. She currently teaches at the Sufi Foundation Retreat Center in New Mexico
Since 1999 she has owned and run Nahari Silks, dyeing silks for dancers and creative people. The veil dance was a technique used by Adnan to bring people into the moment through active meditation. When you dance with a veil the focus and concentration it takes to keep it flowing brings you into the presence and engages all of your muscles, and attention to keep with the music. It acts like a partner and responding to its movement overcomes much self consciousness.
Tamsin has always explored different art forms beginning with sculpture and painting and dyeing. Her creativity turned to writing and drawing, something she could do while traveling and so came “Inside The Time.” and “The Breath Book.” Art and creativity are an inseparable feature of spirituality and each mirrors the other and evolves. Adnan had always taught to seek the positive within all experiences and bring spirit to all that you do.
